The Dawei Special Economic Zone (SEZ) Committee in Myanmar has terminated the concession to develop the initial phase of the Dawei SEZ project with Italian-Thai Development Public Co. Ltd. (ITD). ITD has failed to comply with concession fee payments and prior conditions of the authority. Due to repeated delays and failure to comply with the concessionaire the authority has terminated the concession with ITD on December 30, 2020.
The initial phase of the Dawei SEZ project involves the construction of the industrial estate, small port, LNG terminal, powerplant, township, telecommunication infrastructure, reservoir, the two-lane road connecting to the border of Thailand, and other infrastructure on approx. 27 sq km area.
