The Ministry of Ports and Airports and Santos Port Authority has authorized Brasil Terminal Portuário (BTP) a new concession lease contract to operate at Port of Santos for an additional 20 years in Brazil.

BTP has outlined plans to invest BRL 1.9 billion (USD 380 million) in the container terminal in the coming years. The renewed lease encompasses initial investments totaling BRL1.5 billion (USD 300 million) in infrastructure, equipment, and enhanced operational capabilities. BTP's investment package for increased operational capacity entails the following:

  • acquisition of a new fleet of electrified equipment;
  • new maritime defenses for the dock;
  • gate automation, and an extensive civil construction plan for building adjustments;
  • quay capacity will witness expansion with the addition of four new ship-to-shore cranes, bringing the total to 12 units, along with new defenses;
  • Simultaneously, yard capacity, particularly in the reefer area, will increase from the current 2,128 to approximately 3,500 refrigerated outlets;
  • Additionally, 27 rubber tire gantry cranes and 46 terminal tractors are set to be procured; and
  • The administrative headquarters will be relocated, providing an additional 23,406 sq m of space, developed as an exclusive truck access route. This expansion extends BTP's current area from 430,744 sq m to 454,150 sq m.

Established in 2013, BTP operates as a joint venture between two renowned port operators, APM Terminals and Terminal Investment Limited (TiL).
