Contract awarded for supervision of works related to Export Corridor in Paraguay

The Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC) of Paraguay has announced that it has signed a contract that entrusts the Southern Observation Consortium with the task of supervising the improvement and rehabilitation works of the Empalme PY06 - Empalme Export Corridor "Cruce Kimex - Kressburgo - Carlos Antonio López".

The companies that are part of the consortium will be responsible for the inspection services for two batches of work. A No Objection from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) is also expected. The contract provides for the asphalting of various elements of the road. The choice of road elements for work depends on the environment in which the road is located: road and shoulders, drainage, traffic safety elements and right of way. In rural areas, work is envisaged on roadways and roadsides, drainage systems, such as sewers, ditches; road safety features such as horizontal and vertical signs.

The project includes work on the following 2 lots:

  • Lot 1 runs from Cruce Kimex to Kressburgo junction, from 0.1 km to 27.5 km, with a total length of 27.40 km. Enrique Edgardo Diaz Benza Cano is in charge of this sector for the amount of PYG88,224,279,268 (US$12 million);
  • Lot 2 runs from Cressburgo to Carlos Antonio López, from 27.5 km to 57.4 km, a total of 29.82 km. The Nueva Generación Consortium is responsible for the operation of this section with an investment of PYG104,090,341,421 (US$14 million).

A total of 57.2 km will be paved over two lots. The road connects to the Export Corridor in the department of Itapua with an investment of PYG192,314,620,689 (US$26 million).
