Bulgaria has awarded a EUR186.4 million (US$200 million) contract to PSVT consortium for the design and build of Shipka Peak Tunnel in the Balkan Mountain range.
The selected consortium comprises Patni Stroezhi and Veliko Tarnovo companies. The tunnel will be built 1329 m above sea level in Bulgaria’s Balkan Mountains and within Bulgarka Nature Park located on the north-south I-5 highway and run under Shipka Peak.
The project is being funded by Bulgarian government’s Transport Connectivity 2021-2027 Operational Programme. The project is a part of the bypass for Gabrovo City.
