Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM) in Maharastra, India has issued a letter of appointment (LOA) to Patel Engineering for the development of a tunnel connecting Powai to Ghatkopar high-level reservoir (HLR) to Ghatkopar low-level reservoir (LLR). The aim of the project is to improve the existing water supply infrastructure of Mumbai.
Patel Engineering will assume the works from the previous defaulted contractor. It will be responsible for the construction of an approximately 65 m deep shaft with a 2.8 km long reinforced concrete-lined tunnel of 2.2 meters diameter connecting Shipping Corporation of India (SCI) to Ghatkopar HLR and an approximately 400 m long reinforced concrete-lined tunnel of 2.2 meters diameter connecting SCI to existing tunnel boring shaft at Powai.
The construction work for the project is scheduled to be completed within 51 months. The contract is valued at INR4.19 billion (US$54.77 million).
