The Penang State Government has announced that Hartasuma Sdn Bhd has won the contract for the Penang Cable Car public-private partnership (PPP) project in Malaysia.
The project involves the design, finance, operations and transfers of the Penang Cable Car in Penang Hill, Malaysia. The 2.9 km cable car line will consist of 43 wagons and will be able to carry 1,000 passengers per hour. The lower station of the cable car will be located near the Botanical Garden. With between 1.3 million and 1.8 million visitors a year, the hill will help balance the tourist load. The investment in the project is MYR250 million (US$56 million). Hartasuma is collaborating with the Austrian group Dopplemayr to bring the project to life.
The project will improve the tourism experience and contribute to the socio-economic situation in the area and create about 500 jobs. Hartasuma will hold the concession for the project for 30 years and it will take 3 years to complete the project.
