El Salvador’s Ministry of Public Works (MOP) has awarded a US$410 million highway contract to Dongbu Corporation for the construction of the Los Chorros highway extension and the building of the new 1 km-long Francisco Morazán viaduct.
The scope of the project includes the construction of a new 1km-long Francisco Morazán viaduct by contractor Dongbu Corporation, as well as the expansion of a 15km stretch of highway from km 13 to 28. The expansion will result in the stretch from Delicias, Santa Tecla to old Poliedro having 8 lanes, while the road from old Poliedro to San Juan Opico will have 6 lanes.
Over 50% of the project cost will be financed by the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) and the Korea Import and Export Bank.
