Wessex Internet has secured a GBP14 million (US$17 million) contract from the UK Government’s Project Gigabit to roll out its full fiber broadband network in the south of England.
This new 3-year contract is part of the UK government’s GBP5 billion (US$ 6218 million) Project Gigabit, which aims to provide fast gigabit-capable broadband to hard-to-reach communities across the UK. Wessex Internet will collaborate with Forestry England and the Verderers of the New Forest and anticipates the commencement of network construction in the initial communities by the end of 2023.
Wessex Internet has been awarded its second Project Gigabit contract after previously receiving the award for Project Gigabit North Dorset. The company is dedicated to connecting rural areas and is constructing a gigabit-capable network to serve even the most remote communities in Dorset, Hampshire, Wiltshire, and South Somerset.
