The National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES) signed a contract with the Angra Eurobras NES consortium, winner of the tender for structuring of the 1,405 MWe Angra 3 project. The consortium will be responsible for the revival and completion of works at the power plant.
The construction of the unit was interrupted twice, the last time in 2015 when just over 60% of the project had been completed. Since 2019, BNDES has provided technical services to Electrobras Electronuclear, and contracting of the consortium is part of it. Formed by Tractebel Engineering Ltda., Tractebel Engineering SA and Empresários Agrupados Internacional SA, the consortium will be responsible for defining the projection of investments necessary for the implementation of the project, the detailed schedule of the work and the specification of how the contracting of one or more construction companies will be carried out.
Angra 3 nuclear project is expected to go into operation at the end of 2026. The power plant will generate more than 10 million MWh per year, enough energy to supply approximately 6 million homes.
