Uzbekistan has selected a winning consortium for the 1,200–1,600 MW combined cycle gas turbine power (CCGT) project located in the Syrdarya region.
The winning consortium is formed by EDF, Nebras Power and Sojizt Corporation. It will create a company, which will enter a 25-year power purchase agreement with the National Electric Grid of Uzbekistan to design, finance, build, operate, and maintain (DBFOM) the thermal power plant. IFC has advised the Government of Uzbekistan on the structuring and implementation of a public-private partnership (PPP) and assisted in the tender process.
The thermal power plant is part of the energy transition with the aim to modernize Uzbekistan's power infrastructure, improve the supply of electricity, and allow the country to significantly decrease its usage of natural gas for generation purposes. The new Syrdarya CCGT thermal power plant will have almost two times higher efficiency compared to the old generation fleet.
