The Ministry of Transportation & Telecommunications has awarded Netherlands Airport Consultants (NACO) a BD541,900 (US$1.437 million) contract to conduct an initial study for Bahrain’s estimated US$10 billion greenfield airport project.
NACO will take on the responsibility of supervising and coordinating the activities of multiple specialized sub-consultants. Acting as the primary advisor to the ministry, it will conduct an extensive study encompassing various aspects. This study will concentrate on formulating public policy, development strategies, technical evaluations, economic assessments, financial considerations, and regulatory analysis. The primary focus of the study will be to explore the feasibility and potential of building a new airport on a reclaimed island located to the north of Muharraq. This proposed location coincides with the current site of Bahrain International Airport (BIA). The investigation will involve a thorough examination and evaluation of the project's technical, economic, and regulatory aspects.
