The Government of Vietnam is planning to start construction works for the Can Tho to Ca Mau expressway by November 2022. Located in Mekong Delta, the 156 km long four-lane highway will connect the cities of Can Tho and Ca Mau via crucial connection through three provinces.
The estimated investment value of the project is US$4.4 billion, out of which US$1.63 billion will be invested in the first phase of the project. The first phase involves the development of a two-lane highway between Can Tho and Ca Mau cities, which will be then expanded to four lanes during the second phase. The 91 km section between Can Tho and Bac Lieu will be procured using public funding while the rest of the highway will be developed using Public-Private Partnership (PPP).
Land acquisition for 37 km of the route has been completed and the rest is expected to be finished in the second quarter of 2022. Meanwhile, the government is aiming to finish procedures related to land use conversion, clearance, environmental impact assessment and public consultation by June 30, 2022. The project is expected to be operational by 2025.
