The National Government, at the head of the National Infrastructure Agency and the Government of Meta reached an agreement to start the construction phase of the Malla Vial del Meta project.
The USD434.67 million fourth generation project for the Meta Road Network includes the Granada – Villavicencio – Puerto López – Puerto Gaitán road corridors and the connection of the Catama – Vía Cumaral intersection at the Puente Amarillo toll.
These sections include a total of 267.5 kilometers with 25.8 kilometers of second lanes (10.6 km between Acacías and La Cuncia, 9 km between La Cuncia and Ciudad Porfia and 6.2 km between the Ocoa River and access to the Apiay Military Base), 7.25 kilometers of simple roads (the construction of a new road between the Catama and Yellow Bridge intersection and the Fundadores intersection), 2.5 kilometers of vehicular bridges, 16 pedestrian bridges and 10.9 kilometers of bicycle paths.
Manuel Felipe Gutiérrez Torres, president of the National Infrastructure Agency (ANI), said: “We achieved the reactivation of this project of vital importance for the well-being of all the inhabitants of the Colombian Orinoquía. This project will reduce the travel time of the tractor-trailers that cross the city of Villavicencio by more than 25 minutes, in addition to reducing vehicle operating costs and travel times by increasing traffic speed and in total will generate 3,000 jobs".
