Construction works for the Badagry Deepsea Port project in Nigeria are expected to start in June 2022.
The multifunctional port will have the deepest draft and widest berths in Sub-Saharan Africa with facilities to handle container, oil and gas terminals, several quays to handle dry bulk and ro-ro cargo, machinery, etc. The port will be developed on a 1,103 hectares site and will be able to berth large vessels like the 400-meter-long Maersk Triple E class with a carrying capacity of 18,000 TEUs.
The estimated investment value of the project is US$2.6 billion. The project was awarded to the consortium of APM Terminals, Orlean Invest, Oando Plc, and Macquarie in 2012. Due to the rejection of the master plan and other reasons, the construction has faced obstacles.
