Construction works started of new La Florida Airport in La Serena

The Ministry of Public Works (MOP) has started the construction work of the new La Florida Airport in La Serena, Chile.

The new airport concession will have an investment of US$56.7 million and includes the expansion of the passenger terminal from 4,360 to 13,260 m2, thus tripling its surface area. It will be carried out by the concessionaire company that was awarded the construction and operation of the La Florida airport for the next 20 years. 

The project includes:

  • 2 new boarding bridges (currently there are none);
  • 3 baggage carousels;
  • 4 inspection machines and
  • 16 counters for airlines.

In addition, 175 new parking spaces will be added (from 231 to 406), for taxis, buses, minibuses, car rentals and others. Also new access roads, traffic light crossings, bus stops and their shelters, as well as landscaping and green areas.
