The Bangladeshi government has inaugurated the construction work of the 24km Dhaka-Ashulia Expressway.

Upon completion, the elevated expressway will establish a vital link between Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka and the Nabinagar intersection, passing through Abdullahpur-Ashulia-Bypass and Chandra Junction via EPZ. The project includes an 11km ramp and a 14.28km four-lane connecting road on both sides of the flyover. This expressway, aligned with the Asian Highway, will also be connected to the Dhaka Elevated Expressway.

The primary objective of the Ashulia Expressway is to alleviate traffic congestion on the Abdullahpur-Ashulia-Bypail-Chandra road, which connects 30 districts with Dhaka. To fund this endeavor, the government and the Export-Import Bank of China entered into a significant US$1.1 billion loan agreement in October 2021. The project's completion deadline has been extended to June 2026, and the total cost has increased by BDT652 crore (USD58 million), totaling BDT17,553 crore (USD1.5 Billion).
