IPSul Concessionária de Luz Pública SA, an SPV responsible for street lighting concession in Porto Alegre, has begun implementation of concession by replacing the conventional lighting with LED at Restinga district. The SPV is a consortium formed by Quantum Engenharia, GCE SA, Fortnort Environmental and Urban Development and STE Serviços Técnicos de Engenharia SA.
The SPV expects to replace more than 50,000 light bulbs in Porto Alegre by the end of 2021. These changes will reduce the electricity consumption of street lights in the city by 55%. Under the concession, more than 63 neighborhoods will be served with LED lighting. Neighborhoods with high population density are prioritized and will go through the change first. SPV will also develop a remote management system to closely monitor the system to ensure safety and uninterrupted services.
The Mayor, Sebastião Melo, said: "We are continuing the work of the past administration by experimenting with the first PPP in the Capital. Restinga has more than 100,000 residents and deserves to receive the first light bulbs. We are going to reinforce the work going from the neighborhood to the Center to initially contemplate the poorest areas of Porto Alegre”.
