The Government of Cambodia has started the construction works for its Kampot multipurpose seaport project.
With an estimated investment of US$1.5 billion, the port is being developed by Kampot Logistics and Port. Construction is undertaken by Shanghai Construction Group and China Road and Bridge Corporation.
The 600-hectare port will be developed in three phases. In first phase, it is expected to attract US$200 million in investments. The port will be 15 meters in depth, allowing access for vessels weighing up to 100,000 tonnes. It will have an initial capacity to handle 300,000 TEUs which will be increased to 600,000 TEUs in 2030.
