The Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC) of Paraguay has announced that construction work on the embankment, land clearing, drainage and limestone work is progressing on Lot 2 of the Eastern Metropolitan Corridor.

The Eastern Metropolitan Corridor is a 31 km long 4-lane paved extension that connects with the Paraguay-Brazil Integration Bridge and passes through Presidente Franco, Ciudad del Este, Los Cedrales, Minga Guazú, and Hernandarias. Lot 2 has a length of 11.4 km and is 5.36% complete. The construction work is carried out by the Mediterranean Consortium and the investment is PYG162,9 billion (US$21.9 million).

Eastern Metropolitan Corridor includes 6 contracts, of which 3 relate to road works - the rural sector (lots 1 and 2) and the urban part, which is a connection to the existing network in the city of President Franco. The 2 other works contracts include the main area and port terminal, and another for the construction of a second bridge across the Monday River, with a global investment of US$212 million. All of these works are related to the Integration Bridge, the construction of which has already been completed at the junction of the cities of Presidente Franco (Paraguay) and Foz de Iguaçu (Brazil).
