Namibia’s Roads Authority has announced that Construction started on the rehabilitation of the 30 km Karibib-Usakos trunk road in the Erongo Region of Namibia.

The project is underway with the backing of a concessional loan of NAD372.6 million (US$20 million) from Germany’s KfW Development Bank to Namibia. The primary contractor for the project is Zhong Mei Engineering Group from China. The project will also involve the collaboration of four local contractors: Ino Investment Holdings, Tangeni OM Trading, West Trading, and Alugodhi Trading. The anticipated timeline for the completion of the project is 18 months.

The rehabilitation project will involve the reconstruction of the road surface, the installation of new drainage systems, and the improvement of road safety measures. The project is expected to be completed in 2025. The improved road will make it easier and safer for people to travel between Karibib and Usakos. The rehabilitation of the road will improve connectivity and promote economic development in the Erongo Region.
