Singapore’s Land Transport Authority (LTA) has announced the beginning of work on phase one of the Cross Island Line public-private partnership (PPP) project.
When completed, the US$30 billion line will be over 50 km long and will serve the east, west, and northeast corridors, which will connect Jurong Lake District, Punggol Digital District and Changi region. The project is in its first construction period, which will last 7 years and span 29 km and will consist of 12 stations from the Airpark to Bright Hill.
The LTA has already announced a tender for the second stage, which includes six stations from Turf City to the Jurong Lake District, and in the third stage, engineering surveys are being carried out. LTA also awarded a US$562 million civil contract for the design and construction of Elias Station and tunnels under the Cross Island Line-Punggol Extension (CPe) to CES_SDC Pte. Ltd. LTA will minimize surface settlement during tunnel excavation thanks to a trenchless construction method.
The construction of the first stage is planned to be completed by 2030.
