The Skyrail Bahia consortium consisting of Chinese conglomerate BYD and Metrogreen started construction works for the orange monorail line. This project includes design, building and operation of a 23.28km, 26 station elevated monorail line in Salvador de Bahia (Phase I and Phase II).
The orange monorail line is 19.2 km long. The 4.1 km long green line is proposed to be constructed after the completion of orange line. The monorail is expected to carry 172 000 passengers per day.
The consortium is planning to use 28 BYD four-car monorail trainsets, with 23 assigned to the Orange Line, two to the Green Line and three spare. The monorail sets are designed for a maximum speed of 90 km/h and will have an operational speed of 80 km/h, with a capacity of up to 600 passengers.
