The government of Kenya has announced the start of construction for the JIKA - Westlands expressway public-private partnership (PPP) Project.
The KSh12.5 billion (US$100 million) project involves the construction of a 27-km four-lane two-way road, which should alleviate traffic congestion in Mombasa and increase mobility in Nairobi. The highway includes 10 interchanges, including the SGR terminus at JKIA, Eastern Bypass, Southern Bypass and Enterprise Road. At this stage, about 60,000 vehicles ply the JKIA-Westland route daily.
The express highway will be used by about 25,000 motorists after construction is completed.
