Philippines Department of Transportation (DOTr) has announced about the progress of the construction of New International Airport public-private partnership (PPP) Project in Bulacan.
On the territory of the airport with an area of 1693 ha, work is underway to improve the territory. Once operational, the new gateway will help offload Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) and be a catalyst for economic growth in Central Luzon. Phase 1 of the airport is expected to have a capacity of 35 million passengers per year, create more than 1 million jobs, and increase foreign direct investment and exports. Work on the project began with the signing of the concession agreement DOTr signed a concession agreement with San Miguel Aerocity Inc. (SMAI), a subsidiary of San Miguel Holdings Corp.
Operations at the new gateway are scheduled to begin in 2027.
