The Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC) of Paraguay has announced construction progress for the Bioceánica bridge public-private partnership (PPP) Project.
The overall degree of project implementation is 14.43%. As part of the project, 19 heads and 174 piles have already been built, which will form the basis of future international communication between Carmelo Peralta (Paraguay) and Puerto Murtinho (Brazil). A total of 300 piles are planned to be erected on both sides of the river, which are reinforced concrete cylinders used as the foundation of the bridge at a variable depth of 33 to 43 m. 140 piles (out of a total of 142) have been completed on the Paraguayan side and 31 piles (out of 158) on the Brazilian side. Also, 19 heads out of a total of 24 (in Paraguay) were executed and 3 of 28 heads are in the process of being executed on the Brazilian side. On the Paraguayan side, active bridge construction is taking place.
At this stage of the project, work is intensifying on the mesostructure or vertical elements stage, 390 c. m. have been concreted in pillar 1 and the process of reinforcing and concreting piles 2, 3, 4 and 5, which are located on the Paraguayan side, is ongoing. Climbing formwork is also installed and dismantled in height.
