The National Infrastructure Agency (ANI) has announced that the Puerto Antioquia port terminal's construction is advancing by 54.5%.
The ongoing works aim to enable the movement of nearly 7 million tons of cargo annually by 2025, benefiting small and medium-sized farmers in Urabá, Antioquia. With an investment of USD 760 million, Puerto Antioquia will feature a 4.2 km viaduct, the longest of its kind in the country and one of the longest on the continent. This project will reduce the distances between the interior regions (Bogotá and Medellín) and the northern parts of the country by 33% to 47%, enhancing the efficiency of cargo transportation. The construction is currently 54.5% complete, with significant progress in the manufacture and installation of piles and beams for both the offshore and onshore areas. The port's multipurpose capabilities will allow it to handle containers, bulk, general cargo, and vehicles, accommodating container ships up to 367 meters long with a capacity of 13,000 containers, thanks to the dredging completed in 2022, which achieved an average depth of 15 meters. The construction phase is expected to be completed in the first half of 2025.
