The Chilian Ministry of Public Works (MOP) has announced that the expansion of the Balmaceda Aerodrome has reached 6.8% progress which is located 55 km from Coyhaique, Aysén Region.
The project, which involves an investment of USD 48 million, will allow the facility to be expanded from 2,400 m² to 12,391 m². Construction work began in May 2023 and this phase has focused on building the reinforced concrete structure of the new Passenger Terminal Building, including foundations, slabs, pillars, elevator shafts and stairs.
The First Concession of the Balmaceda Aerodrome will allow the construction of a new terminal, the incorporation of five new boarding bridges in front of the two that currently exist, new roads and a covered parking building and the construction of a new commercial platform. These improvements will mean that the airfield will be able to receive international flights, improving the service and the boarding and disembarking times of passengers. During the first 8 months of this year, Balmaceda Aerodrome registered 206,178 passengers, which represents an increase of 2.8% compared to the same period in 2023. It should be noted that last year 300,094 passengers traveled through this terminal.
