The 600 MWp Phase I of the Kinshasa Solar City PPP Project has been launched in the capital city of Kinshasa in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
The Kinshasa Solar City will have a total generating capacity of 1000 MWp once fully commissioned. It will be implemented under the BOOT (build, own, operate, transfer) model of public-private partnership (PPP).
Phase I of the project is awarded and being developed by Sun Plus, a unit of The Sandi Group (TSG), in the Menkao, a rural district of the Maluku commune 74 km from Kinshasa. Sun Plus has signed a 25-year power purchase deal with the state-owned utility National Electricity Company (Snel) for the energy produced in the solar plant at US$0.095 per kWh rate.
The entire project is expected to generate a total investment of about US$1 billion.
Phase I is expected to enter operation before the end of 2020.
