The construction of the 6-lane dual carriageway Abidjan-Lagos Corridor has been announced to begin in 2024.
The Abidjan-Lagos Corridor, a key initiative of the Programme for Infrastructure Development in Africa (PIDA), holds a prominent position within the Dakar-Lagos Corridor and the Trans African Highway Network in the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) region. It has been identified by the presidents of Côte d'Ivoire, Ghana, Togo, Benin, and Nigeria as a vital project for regional integration in West Africa.
A comprehensive road network spanning 1,028 km will be developed, establishing vital connections between major cities such as Lagos, Accra, Cotonou, Lome, and Abidjan. This extensive infrastructure project encompasses a substantial portion of West Africa and includes access to multiple seaports. Furthermore, it plays a crucial role in providing transportation links to landlocked countries like Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger. Notably, Ghana will witness the construction of 576 km of roads, which includes the remarkable feat of a 2.7 km underground tunnel connecting Ga East in the Greater Accra Region to Berekusu in the Eastern Region.
