The Corner Brook Health Partnership (CBHP) has officially handed over the newly constructed acute care Western Memorial Regional Hospital to NL Health Services in Corner Brook, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada.

NL Health Services has assumed operational control of the facility and will initiate the process of relocating equipment and staff to the new seven-story, 600,000 sq ft facility. The aim is to open the new hospital to the public in spring 2024, offering 164 beds and mirroring the services currently provided at the existing Western Memorial Regional Hospital. The expanded facility will also feature an enhanced cancer care program, including radiation services.

This transition marks the completion of the major construction phase and the commencement of the 30-year facility management term by CBHP. CBHP, comprising key participants such as Plenary Americas, PCL Investments Inc., PCL Constructors Canada Inc., Marco Services Ltd., B+H Architects, Parkin Architects, The Cahill Group, Plan Group Inc., and Johnson Controls Canada, was selected in 2019 to design, build, finance, and maintain the new acute care hospital in Corner Brook, with a contract value of US$750 million. Notably, the facility prioritizes environmental sustainability, incorporating a geothermal system that is expected to result in annual electricity savings of approximately 4,600,000 kWh, equivalent to heating 500 homes for a year.
