Balfour Beatty Investments has initiated construction on the West Slope Residences, a new student accommodation project for the University of Sussex in the UK.
The West Slope Residences will include 1,899 bedrooms, a health and well-being center, and various catering and retail amenities designed specifically for students. Balfour Beatty plans to utilize modular building techniques, constructing the modular steel frame and bedroom units off-site. Balfour Beatty Investments has secured a 54-year contract encompassing the design, construction, financing, and maintenance of the new accommodation.
The project reached a financial close in December 2023, following the approval of plans by Brighton & Hove City Council in 2022 for the construction of student housing and related facilities. The student accommodation is expected to be ready for the 2026/2027 academic year.
