China Road and Bridge Corporation(CRBC) has started the construction on the Cambodian side of a tolled motorway that will eventually link Phnom Penh with Ho Chi Minh City.
The US$1.6 billion project involves the construction of a 4-lane, 138-km road along the existing 2-lane National Highway 1. In addition, Vietnam will build a motorway connecting Moc Ba and Ho Chi Minh City to complete the connection. Both projects are anticipated to be completed within 4 years, by early 2027. Once finished, the expressway will link Phnom Penh and Bavet City, reducing travel time between Phnom Penh and Sihanoukville from five hours to approximately two hours.
