The African Development Bank has announced the operational phase of the Congo - Central Africa Backbone (CAB) Project.
The CAB project aims to connect the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS) countries with high-speed telecom infrastructure. Specifically, the Central African Republic component focuses on linking the country with Cameroon and Congo. The project's overall goal is to boost the Congolese economy by increasing tax revenue, reducing transaction costs, bridging the digital divide in rural areas, promoting regional integration, and generating employment opportunities through optical fiber infrastructure.
The project cost net of taxes and customs duties amount to US$52.406 million. It includes the following main components:
