The Federal Court of Accounts (TCU) has approved the concession studies for stages 3 to 9 of the Baixio Irrigation Project, located in Bahia, Brazil. The publication of the notice is expected in August, with the auction scheduled for November 2021.
Access to the Baixio project area is via the BA-052 Highway, connecting Xique-Xique to Feira de Santana, where it connects to the road network to the Port of Aratu and Salvador. The project's area is divided into nine stages. The first one is in the planning phase and production is scheduled to start in 2021, while stage 2 should have financing contracts signed in July. Stages 1 and 2 together have around 16 thousand irrigated hectares.
Stages 3-9 cover 50,531 hectares with 31,500 hectares of irrigable area. The selected concessionaire will be responsible for the implementation, operation and maintenance of the irrigation infrastructure for a period of 35 years. The occupation of irrigable areas with agricultural production will also be the responsibility of the concessionaire, who may choose to carry it out by its own means or via sub-concession.
