The National Infrastructure Agency (ANI) in Colombia has announced the extension of the deadline for the Magdalena River Waterway PPP project.
The project involves the design, construction, finance, operation and maintenance of the 668-kilometer river waterway to improve navigability between Bocas de Ceniza (Barranquilla) to Barrancabermeja (Santander). The project will have 18 functional units and most of the works correspond to hydraulic infrastructure (shore protection, breakwater repair, submerged dikes, shore lining, moorings, etc).
This project will benefit the populations of 50 municipalities, from Barrancabermeja to Barranquilla, positively impacting more than 1,577,150 inhabitants of six departments. It is estimated that during the construction and operation period it will generate 12,700 jobs (including direct and indirect jobs). The Magdalena River Waterway PPP will have an investment of COP1.53 trillion (US$367 million).
