The Government of Brazil has signed the concession contracts with 3 winning companies for the concession of 12 airports that were divided into three regional blocks - Northeast, Southeast and Midwest. The concessions were awarded in March earlier this year. The Government expects investments of BRL 1.47 billion (USD 360.54 million) in the first five years.

The concession contracts are valid for 30 years. The winning companies are as follows:

Northeast Block: Spanish Aena Desarollo bought the terminals of Recife (PE); Maceio (AL); João Pessoa (PB); Aracaju (SE); Juazeiro do Norte (CE) and Campina Grande (PB) for BRL 1.91 billion (USD 469 million).

Southeast Block: Switzerland Zurich Airport Latin America got the terminals of Vitória (ES) and Macaé (RJ) for BLR 441 million (USD 108 million).

Midwest Block: the Brazilian consortium Aeroeste formed by the Brazilian companies Socicam Terminals Rodoviários and Sinart National Road and Tourism Support Society will have the concession of the terminals of Cuiabá (MT); Sinop (MT); Rondonópolis (MT) and Alta Floresta (MT) for BRL 9.9 million (USD ).

According to the National Civil Aviation Agency (Anac), companies will have the commitment to make investments for the expansion and maintenance of the 12 airports granted. The Ministry of Infrastructure estimates that in the first five years of the concession, the terminals will receive an investment of BRL 1.47 billion (USD 360.54 million):

• BRL 788 million (USD 193 million) in the Northeast block
• BRL 302 million (USD 74 million) in the Southeast block
• BRL 386.7 million (USD 95 million) in the Midwest block.

The first investments in the airports - scheduled for the initial 180 days of the contract - will be immediate improvements such as restroom and changing facilities, revitalization and updating of information signs inside and outside the Passenger Terminal (TPS); provision of free high speed wireless internet throughout the TPS; and overhaul of air conditioning systems, escalators, moving walkways, lifts and luggage return belts; among other interventions.
