The Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC) of Paraguay has announced that it will receive documentation from companies interested in expanding and improving the PY01 route through a public-private partnership (PPP).
The project includes the improvements from Cuatro Mojones to Ytororó (South Access section) and the doubling of the road from Ytororó to Quiindy. Approximately 45 requests have been received from stakeholders since the call was published on February 22, 2023. The project works will consist of maintenance, rehabilitation, opening of third lanes and comprehensive improvement of the drainage and signaling system at the site with a contract period of 30 years. The PY01 route and the southern approach to Asuncion connect to the south of the country and are regional integration corridors connecting them to Argentina. The route crosses the districts of Ipane, Guarambare, Villeta and Ita in the Department of Central, and the cities of Jaguarón, Paraguari, Carapegua and Quiindy in the Department of Paraguari.
The project is part of the Transport Master Plan (TPM), which defines strategies to improve traffic in Paraguay's most conflict-prone areas.
