Autopistas del Nordeste S.A.S has announced that construction of the Conexion Norte highway, which will link Remedios, Segovia, Zaragoza and Caucasia, located in Antioquia, north-west Colombia, is 32% complete.
The 146km highway is being delivered in segments. The greenfield Remedios-Zaragoza segment is currently 10% complete, while the upgrading of the existing road connecting Zaragoza and Caucasia is 80% complete. The latter is scheduled to enter operations in the first semester of 2019. A third segment concerns upgrading existing road within the Zaragoza municipality and is 58% complete at present.
The highway is scheduled to commence full commercial operations at the beginning of 2021, when the construction of the new road between Remedios and Zaragoza is finished. This is projected to reduce the current approximately five-hour journey time between Remedios and Caucasia by half.
