The government of Colombia has announced a commitment to support the development of Bogota Metro Line 2, despite the hardship caused by the corona pandemic. The project is expected to boost the development and employment in the capital. The government is financing 70% of the project. and works are scheduled to begin in the upcoming few months.
The project consists of 12 kilometers long underground railway line. The works are scheduled to begin in the upcoming few months and will be finalized by the end of 2023. The Metro Line 2 will start in Calle 72 with Avenida Caracas and will go to Avenida Ciudad de Cali, directly to the ALO area, arriving near the Fontanar del Río park.
The estimated investment in the project is COP9.5 billion (US$2.52 billion). Once operational, line 2 could handle 45,000 passengers per hour/direction.
