The Colombian government, through the Ministry of Transportation and the National Infrastructure Agency (ANI), has announced measures regarding the Turbaco toll in the Autopistas del Caribe-Cartagena-Barranquilla freight corridor project.
The project requires EUR5.7 billion (USD6.2 billion) and toll collection is crucial for funding. Starting August 16, 2023, toll collection for larger vehicle categories will resume, while collection for smaller categories will be suspended for up to six months. This is to assess relocating the toll or finding alternative solutions. The suspension of toll collection since December 2021 caused an EUR77 billion (USD84 billion) deficit. The government seeks to continue the project, emphasizing its regional development impact and job creation. The National Infrastructure Agency will engage with local communities and invest in road improvements.
