The Coimbatore Corporation, the civic body that governs the city of Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu (India), has announced plans to launch the tender process for the 24X7 drinking water supply PPP project.

According to the financial feasibility report, the civic body needs to bring down its contribution in the project to 10% from 30%. The reduction, which has been approved by the corporation, would come from the concessionaire through the PPP.

The reason for the change is the increase in the project investment. The revised funding pattern has increased the cost of the project to Rs5.5 billion (US$88.3 million) from Rs4.5 billion (US$72.2 million) .

A resolution for the revised plan for the project was passed in late January. According to the resolution, the corporation will receive 125 million litres a day (MLD) of drinking water from Pilloor II water scheme.
