CMA CGM Group has completed the acquisition of La Méridionale.
This acquisition is a strategic move by the container carrier to broaden its business scope and venture into new sectors. La Méridionale presently operates four ro-pax vessels, facilitating up to 13 weekly crossings between Marseille and the ports of Ajaccio and Porto Vecchio in Corsica, France. As part of its plans for further development, the company intends to invest in improving the boarding process at Marseille, upgrading onboard telecommunications systems, digitizing the customer experience, and expanding its tour operating activities to enhance Corsica's appeal as a tourism destination.
CMA CGM Group plans to invest in La Méridionale's fleet modernization for enhanced energy efficiency and environmental sustainability. The new LNG-powered vessels will offer improved passenger comfort, reduced noise levels, and zero CO2 emissions during port calls. The aim is to replace older vessels on routes connecting Corsica and Marseille.
