The Canada Infrastructure Bank (CIB) has announced the launch of a US$500 million zero-emission vehicle (ZEV) Charging and Hydrogen Refuelling Infrastructure Initiative (CHRI) in Canada.
The CIB initiative is part of the ZEV adoption effort in Canada. The initiative involves reducing greenhouse gas emissions in the transport sector by accelerating the deployment of ZEV chargers and hydrogen filling stations by the private sector. Proposals are submitted to the CIB for consideration if they meet criteria such as large-scale implementation (over US$10 million total capital cost), private sector support and revenue generation.
The CIB will control the risk of using the charging and refueling infrastructure by matching the repayment of funding to usage levels. CIB will benefit from more favorable participation in the form of higher interest rates, taking into account the risk-sharing of use. Funding will be allocated for the rapid and widespread deployment of charging and refueling infrastructure.
