China seeks MoU with Bangladesh for Dhaka to Chittagong high speed rail PPP project

The Government of China has offered to sign a Government to Government Public-Private Partnership (PPP) agreement for Dhaka-Chittagong high-speed railway project in Bangladesh. China aims to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the project and has chosen China Railway Construction Corporation (CRCC) to implement the development.

The high-speed railway project is 224.6 km long and will provide connections to Narayanganj, Cumilla and Feni. The new track will be able to reach the speed of 300 km/h, which will be able to reduce the travel time between Dhaka and Chittagong to 55 minutes.

The Bangladesh Railway has already completed a feasibility study for the project and has concluded that the project is economically viable at an international rate of 15%. The estimated investment value for the project is billion (US$9.83 billion).
