The Ministry of Public Works (MOP) has announced improvements to the concession process for the operation and maintenance of the New Penitentiary Establishment of Talca in Chile.
The company Constructora San José SA Agency in Chile will be in charge of said functions in this facility, which involves an investment of USD 63 million. The prison could begin partial operation in 2024, which would allow for a maximum of approximately 400 people to enter. It is estimated that in 2026 the facility will reach its maximum capacity to house 2,320 inmates.
The building has a total area of approximately 63,570 m2 and 14 three-story detention modules. This new concession includes the fitting out of all areas intended for the provision of services, which includes the provision of standard and security equipment, and the execution of improvements in security facilities. The project also includes the maintenance and upkeep of the infrastructure and the provision of penitentiary services, such as support for social reintegration, health care, and food.
