National Railway of Chile (EFE) is planning to start the tendering process for Chile's first intermodel terminal in June 2021. The terminal will integrate the railway network of Chile with San Antonio port to facilitate easier transfer and increase capacity to transport more cargo through the train network. The estimated investment value for the project is US$ 12 million.
Currently, the railway route handles only 3% of the total cargo handled at the port. The San Antonio port has shown constant growth in the last five years and is projected to exceed its capacity. This project is part of EFE's plans to double freight traffic from 10 million to 20 million tons in the coming years.
