Chile launches tender for improvement works on Ruta 68

The Ministry of Public Works in Chile has launched a tender seeking a private partner for the Ruta 68 Santiago-Valparaíso-Viña del Mar road interconnection concession. With an estimated budget of US$1.22 billion, the concession involves works on modernization and increase in security and service for 140.7 km long Ruta 68 highway extension.

The private partner will be responsible for the development of third lanes and fourth lanes in an 8.3 km long section between Vespucio link to the Costanera Norte link, new tunnels Lo Prado 3 and Zapata 3, new Mapocho and Pudahuel bridges, and a new two-lane 82 km long reversible carriageway between Lo Prado Toll and the Las Cenizas Junction, in addition to improvement works in existing 12 bridges, 12 interchanges and 16 crossings on the route. The concession also includes adjustments in the layout to avoid curves and steep slopes and LED lighting at pedestrian walkways and bridges.
