American football team the Chicago Bears has announced a US$4.2 billion stadium, to be designed by Kansas City firm Manica Architecture.
The waterfront development will feature a mix of amenities including a shopping mall, dining establishments, and bars. The architectural design will feature a translucent roof, reminiscent of the Raiders' Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, allowing for versatile event hosting such as concerts, conventions, and graduations. Infrastructure enhancements such as overpasses, ramps, interchanges, and a parking deck will be implemented to alleviate traffic congestion in the vicinity. Funding for the project, totaling approximately US$2 billion, will be provided by the Bears, with additional support from the Illinois Sports Facilities Authority. Construction is scheduled to commence in 2025.
