The County of Miami-Dade has decided to remove the Venetian Causeway from the Rickenbacker Causeway project in the USA.
The decision to exclude the causeway is based on the historic nature of the Venetian Causeway and considerable public opposition to allowing a private entity to redevelop the causeway. The Venetian Causeway will stay under the control of the County. Based on this decision, the competitive solicitation for the design, build, finance, operate and maintain will be revised to include this change.
In July 2021, the Board of Miami-Date has approved the unsolicited proposal and the issuance of a tender process for the project. The Request for Proposal (RFP) was issued by the administration, including the development of parkland and beachfront along the Rickenbacker Causeway. The deadline to submit the responses is December 13, 2021. More information is available here.
