Changes in blocks of 7th round for airport concessions in Brazil

The Government of Rio de Janeiro, the Federal Government, through the Ministry of Infrastructure has changed the blocks of the seventh round of airport concessions. Now, there will be four lots of airports (earlier it was three) offered to the private sector in the first half of 2022, with investments of around BRL8.63 billion (US$1.64 billion).

The Federal Government relocated the Uberlândia, Uberaba and Montes Claros (MG) airfields to SP-MS-PA Block. The Santos Dumont airport (RJ) will now form a single block whereas the North Block II of the seventh round was not altered. The new composition of blocks is as follows:

  1. Block SP/MS/PA/MG: Formed by the airports of Congonhas/SP, Campo Grande/MS, Corumbá/MS, Ponta Porã/MS, Santarém/PA, Marabá/PA, Carajás/PA, Altamira/PA, Uberlândia/MG , Uberaba/MG and Montes Claros/MG. The planned investment is BRL5.9 billion (US$1.11 billion). Initial grant: BRL255 million (US$48.4 million);
  2. General Aviation Block: Integrated by the airports of Campo de Marte (SP) and Jacarepaguá, in Rio de Janeiro, the lot has BRL560 million (US$106.3 million) in planned investments. Initial grant: BRL138 million (US$26.2 million);
  3. North Block II: Formed by the air terminals of Bélem/PA and Macapá/AP, it has BRL875 million (US$166.12 million) in planned investments. Initial grant: BRL57 million (US$10.8 million);
  4. Santos Dumont Block: Formed only by Santos Dumont airport (RJ), it has an investment forecast of BRL1.3 billion (US$246.8 million). Initial grant: BRL731 million (US$138.7 million).
